Footprints

artwork copyright Joe Tucciaron Poem by Mary Stevenson
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.

Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.

Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,

other times there was one only.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life,

when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat,

I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,

"You promised me Lord, that if I followed you,

you would walk with me always.

But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life

there has only been one set of footprints in the sand.

Why, when I needed you most,

have you not been there for me?

"The Lord replied,

"The years when you have seen only one set of footprints,

my child, is when I carried you."

  1. I always liked this poem, and sometimes when things have gotten difficult for me, I recall the last line in my head. Very nice adaptation of the hand of God/hand of man, there, too. It really fits well with the theme.

There's so much that we don't see, that so many people care about you . We don't notice them but they do care.

Hmm... the picture kinda looks familiar...

  8. Hello Ancient One,
I would be pleased to continue discussion on such things and reincarnation and homosexuals, as you suggested on Joshua's blog.

Let's put the "fun" back in fundamental, eh?

  9. O Ancient Clown. I'm sorry. The picture is not mine either. I did not have any rights over the picture.

Tis a good picture and suits the poem. Keep it there.

It does add an extra something.

Yours is a very nice blog. Keep up the good work.

I guess I won't have much time for my blog since I'll have more exams coming soon ...

    Yours humbly
